Handmade Collages by Sarah Key

Sarah Key is a collage artist from Belgrade (Serbia).

Ever since I was a little girl, more than playing with dolls, I have loved cutting paper. I would cut up all the magazines before my parents even got a chance to read them. I'd describe my work as a mix of vintage aesthetic and surrealistic moments. The human body in every way, shape and size is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me. I am particularly fascinated by human hands. I love the dynamics and movement that body language brings into my work. I work mostly with material that I already have in the house - old newspapers, magazines, and books. Also, my friends donate old books and magazines for collages. About my work process: I usually start with an image that inspires me and then the “journey” begins. I go through the material (sometimes several times) until I find the matching image, the one that “speaks” to me. Often, the initial idea is different than the final result and that's what I love about collages - you never know where they will take you.
