On Being by Niki Boon

Niki Boon is a former physiotherapist, mother and self taught photographer living with her familyin rural Marlborough, New Zealand. Niki's photography focuses on her family and their environment.

On Beingis a collaboration between myself and my daughter who has recently turned 11, exploring the complexities of the in-between years. As her mother and a photographer, the photos help me to understand, remember and navigate all the incredible changes at this significant and vulnerable stage, the lost years… crossing back and forwards between the emotional minefield and self-consciousness of adolescence and the innocence, wild imaginings and freedoms of childhood, but without identifying with either.
